Nigerian musician Portable sparked a scene in a Canadian mall after an altercation with a fellow Nigerian who allegedly pressured him to promote his business without compensation. The confrontation, captured in a video shared by Portable, shows the “Zazoo” crooner in a heated argument with the man who owns a local restaurant.
According to Portable, the man, who helped organize a Regina show Portable was scheduled to perform at, insisted that he visit and promote the restaurant. Portable declined, stating he wasn’t paid to advertise the business, which reportedly led to the man’s aggressive response. In the video, Portable and the businessman exchange insults, while bystanders attempt to deescalate the situation.
Portable later explained the details in a social media post, describing how the incident began before he even entered the mall. “As I was walking toward the door, this organizer of the Regina show drove in front of me, nearly hitting me just because I didn’t want to go to his restaurant for unpaid promotion,” he wrote.
Once inside, Portable was approached again, with the organizer demanding he take photos with fans while shopping. Portable said he declined, asserting his right to personal space, which allegedly escalated the man’s anger, leading to threats of violence. According to Portable, the organizer even struck his promoter, AJ Bone, and then hit Portable himself.
Mall security reportedly intervened, confirming they had captured the altercation on camera. “The security officers advised me to press charges after seeing the footage,” Portable shared, adding that Canadian police are now handling the matter.
The viral incident adds to Portable’s record of controversial public encounters, with many fans divided over the musician’s response to the situation.
