The Nigerian Police have detained Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the 2024 African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Ondo State, and Patrick Owolabi, a member of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement. The arrests took place in Akure, the state capital, during the concluding event of the nationwide protest against hunger, hardship, and poor governance, known as #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
The TIB Movement has condemned the police action and is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Ajayi and Owolabi. They expressed their frustration on Twitter, stating:
“It is disappointing that the @PoliceNG has not learned from past mistakes. The ongoing crackdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters is unacceptable. We strongly condemn the arrest of Ajayi Wizeman and Patrick Owolabi in Ondo State and demand their immediate and unconditional release.”
