Senator Orji Kalu recently asserted that President Bola Tinubu is acutely aware of the economic hardships facing Nigerians and is actively working to address them.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu emphasized Tinubu’s connection to the people, stating, “The president himself knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well.” Kalu revealed that Tinubu sometimes drives around Abuja at night to personally observe the situation.
He also highlighted the broader context of Nigeria’s economic challenges, citing a National Bureau of Statistics report that indicated an inflation rate of 32.7 percent in September 2024.
The senator linked the rising costs of basic goods to the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, which have significantly impacted millions.
Additionally, Kalu noted that Nigeria’s struggles are not unique, pointing out that many countries are still grappling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He argued that the reason other nations may not feel the economic strain as acutely as Nigeria is their established economic stability. “Some countries are no longer feeling the COVID-19 impact the way Nigeria is because they have built a robust economy over time,” he explained.
