The organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protests, scheduled for August 1, have rejected the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s proposal to limit demonstrations to confined locations. During a meeting on July 30, Egbetokun suggested avoiding street rallies to prevent potential violence, citing arrests of individuals threatening unrest. He proposed restricting protests to specific areas to ensure safety.

However, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) from the Take It Back Movement, along with other civil society groups and legal representatives, disagreed. They maintained that protests would include street processions leading to designated locations, and assured the IGP that the demonstrations would be peaceful. They argued that the police should focus on addressing threats from those advocating violence rather than restricting peaceful assembly. The IGP has agreed to provide security at the specified locations but cannot guarantee safety for street processions.
