An explosion occurred at the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State, Nigeria, in the early hours of Monday. The blast, believed to have been caused by a dynamite, happened around 1 a.m. at the party’s office located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt. The explosion shattered windows, doors, and damaged the building’s ceiling and fittings, leaving the party’s leadership and members in a state of panic.
The perpetrators have not yet been identified, but the attack is suspected to be related to ongoing leadership conflicts in the state. There are speculations that Governor Siminialayi Fubara might be shifting his support to the APP due to internal disputes within the People’s Democratic Party, which is associated with Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
Chimene, an APP member, described the attack as politically motivated and called for a thorough investigation by the police to identify and apprehend those responsible.
