Dr. Mukail Akinde, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, announced plans to establish a mini assembly plant for the production of a newly invented electric automated tricycle. This tricycle, built at the institution’s innovation center, is designed to reduce import dependency, ease foreign exchange pressures, and create job opportunities.

Akinde urged the Federal Government and corporate organizations to support this initiative for commercial production. The tricycle prototype features seating for three people and a solar-powered charging panel, with the potential to be a significant step in reducing import reliance.

The Governing Council Chairman, Alhaji Garba Gashua, expressed pride in the innovation and pledged to seek federal support. The National Automotive Design and Development Council’s Director, Mr. Ayinde Abdullahi, highlighted the importance of local raw material production to boost the automotive industry.

Jide Soyemi, Director of the Innovation Centre, noted that the center exposes students to advanced technologies like AI and robotics, with the tricycle being a notable student-led project.
