The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to banning all unregulated commercial bus operations, commonly referred to as “Danfos” and “Koropes,” along the Lekki-Epe corridor starting October 1, 2024. According to State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, this decision aligns with the Lagos State Strategic Transportation Master Plan.

In a statement to Vanguard, Osiyemi and Giwa emphasized the necessity for cooperation from Public Transport Bus Operators, including Korope/Danfo drivers, as the government unveils restructuring plans aimed at enhancing the commuting experience. Giwa highlighted that a stakeholders meeting had been convened earlier with bus operators and union leaders to stress the importance of compliance ahead of the implementation date.

Giwa further described the current bus operations along the corridor as chaotic, underscoring the collaborative effort required to effectively regulate and integrate the informal transport sector into the State’s Bus Reform Initiative. The Lekki/Epe corridor will serve as a pilot test for these reforms.
