The Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kogi State, Eleojo Opaluwa, has reportedly been abducted by the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

According to reports from Vanguard, Opaluwa, an official of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), was taken from Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on August 4, 2024.

Eyewitnesses saw him being transported in police vehicles after he went to meet an unidentified caller.

Later that day, security personnel visited the NUEE office in Garki, seeking information about Opaluwa, but were informed he was not present.

Opaluwa’s family reported his disappearance to the Mararaba Police Station but were told to return if he did not come home.

The police have not made a missing person declaration despite the family’s efforts.

NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, confirmed Opaluwa’s abduction and stated he was briefly brought to his office by security officers but then removed again without speaking to his colleagues. Attempts to contact Opaluwa have been unsuccessful.

The NUEE has engaged a lawyer to inform the National Security Adviser and is calling for Opaluwa’s immediate release, condemning the detention as a serious violation of his rights.
