Gunmen, suspected to be from a secessionist group, have kidnapped reporters en route to cover the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Libya in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The abduction occurred in Isseke, a known trouble spot, with conflicting reports on whether it happened Wednesday or early Thursday.
Tragically, one victim has been reported killed, while the status of the others remains uncertain. Deputy Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police spokesman, confirmed the incident and stated that a joint operation is underway to locate the victims.
He noted that there is currently no information regarding the rescue of any of the abducted individuals.
