The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away following prostate cancer surgery at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja.
He died in the early hours of Thursday after undergoing the procedure. Ayilara, who was deployed to Akwa Ibom in February 2024, was set to be buried according to Islamic rites on the same day.
His extensive career included roles such as Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Oyo State and acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
He held degrees in law from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria Law School, and the University of Lagos.
