In a shocking incident that has left the community of Awka, Anambra State in dismay, a 31-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as James Rich, works as a yardman at the St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican church in Ifite Awka.
The arrest was made by the Anambra State Police Command, following a report by the State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon. Ify Obinabo. Commissioner Obinabo confirmed the disturbing incident, emphasizing the need for justice to be served swiftly.

According to the statement released by the Commissioner’s office, the suspect, a married man with two children and expecting a third, confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He admitted to defiling the minor on multiple occasions, usually on Sunday mornings at the church premises. Shockingly, he revealed that he would give the victim a sum of two hundred naira as a bribe.
The victim, who has developmental challenges, corroborated the suspect’s confession, revealing that the abuse occurred every Sunday morning before the 6:30am service started.
The arrest serves as a stern reminder for adults to refrain from such heinous acts, especially against minors. Commissioner Obinabo warned that the state would not tolerate any form of child abuse and urged the court to fast track the legal proceedings to ensure justice for the young victim.
