Concerns are mounting over the absence of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who has reportedly been flown abroad for medical treatment.
This situation has unsettled military circles, with top generals expressing worry about his unexplained disappearance. Lagbaja, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023, last made a public appearance on September 10, 2024, during a civil-military project inauguration.
His absence from significant events, including the combined passing-out parade for military cadets, has raised eyebrows.
Sources indicate that Lagbaja was taken abroad by family members for medical care, with some military officers noting a lack of leadership in his absence. While an Army spokesperson stated that Lagbaja is on leave, emphasizing that leaders deserve time off, the situation has nonetheless created unease, particularly among junior soldiers awaiting promotion decisions.
As of now, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement regarding Lagbaja’s health or absence, leaving many questions unanswered.
