In the early hours of Saturday, an explosion occurred at the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt, just hours before local government elections.
The blast, suspected to be caused by explosives, caused significant damage to the main gate, security post, and a nearby building.
Videos of the aftermath have raised concerns about the political climate in the area. Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker chairman of the APC in Rivers, has accused supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being behind the attack, alleging it was an attempt to heighten tensions before the elections.
