Supporters of Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South in the Senate under the All Progressives Congress (APC), have expressed their discontent over alleged neglect and mistreatment. On Saturday, frustrated youths in Tilden Fulani took drastic measures by tearing down the senator’s banners and publicly denouncing their support.
The unrest began when the senator’s convoy passed through the area. Eyewitnesses reported that the youths, angered by the perceived abandonment after their efforts in the 2023 General Elections, blocked the road and demanded an audience with Umar. In response, the senator instructed his security detail to clear the road, avoiding direct engagement with the protesters.

The situation escalated into a brief confrontation, during which one of the protesters sustained injuries and is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed location. Local residents condemned the senator’s actions, criticizing his decision to use security forces to disperse the crowd rather than address their grievances.

A local resident commented, “Sen. Shehu Buba Umar’s treatment of his supporters in Tilden Fulani today was unacceptable. His choice to have security clear the road instead of engaging with the people led to an injury. We call for an apology for this mistreatment.”

Attempts to reach Senator Umar for comment were unsuccessful, as calls, WhatsApp messages, and texts to his office went unanswered.
