Workers at Car Park C, Tin Can Port in Lagos, staged an unusual send-off for a departing female customs officer on her last day at work. The officer, reported to have attained the rank of Assistant Commissioner within the Nigerian Customs Service, faced a hostile farewell on Wednesday, October 23, as she exited the premises.
As the officer descended a staircase from her office, a large crowd of port and dock workers gathered outside, chanting “Isa, ole” (thief) in unison. Many workers held placards, while others raised their fists as they loudly expressed their disdain. The chants persisted as she departed from the premises, creating a tense atmosphere.
The reasons behind the workers’ protest were not immediately clear, though it was evident that tensions had escalated between the officer and dock workers leading up to her departure.
