President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigeria Police Force to protect local government secretariats in Rivers State following violent incidents tied to recent local elections.
Reports indicate that some council secretariats were set on fire by individuals unhappy with the election results.
In a statement, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga highlighted Tinubu’s concerns about the escalating violence and urged all political leaders to promote peace and discourage their supporters from resorting to destruction. The President emphasized the importance of maintaining order and safeguarding public facilities, reiterating that disputes should be resolved through the judiciary, not through self-help actions.
“President Tinubu directed the police to restore and maintain peace, law, and order immediately.

“While instructing law enforcement agencies to bring the situation under control, he emphasised the need to ensure the security of public institutions.

“President Tinubu said government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vandalism.”
