President Bola Tinubu is reportedly preparing for a significant cabinet reshuffle in response to criticism regarding the performance of his ministers.
Amid mounting pressure from within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the public, Tinubu is taking steps to address concerns about underperformance and inefficiency.
To assess ministerial performance, Tinubu established the Result and Delivery Unit last year, led by Mrs. Hadiza Bala-Usman. This unit is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of ministers and other top officials.
The President has indicated that those who do not meet expectations may face dismissal.
In recent moves, Tinubu replaced the heads of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS), signaling his commitment to restructuring and accountability.
Sources suggest that a cabinet reshuffle is imminent, with some ministers likely to be dismissed or reassigned to different positions. The aim of this reshuffle is to enhance the cabinet’s capacity to effectively implement Tinubu’s policies. Close associates of the President believe that a more competent cabinet is necessary to achieve meaningful reform and address criticisms of his administration’s effectiveness.
The upcoming reshuffle is seen as a critical step in ensuring that Tinubu’s government can deliver on its promises and make significant progress in the coming year.
