Lawyers and human rights activists in Lagos on Wednesday, August 7 woke up to the shocking news of the demise of a former Nigerian Bar Association(NBA), Ikeja branch, Adeshina Ademola Ogunlana. He was 60 years old.

Ogunlana was reported to have slumped in his office along Ikorodu Road, Lagos on Tuesday evening. He did not survive. Just last week, Ogunlana celebrated his 60th birthday with a lecture at the Ikeja Bar Center.

A stormy legal petrel, Ogunlana is known for his many battles against the oppression of the people. He was one of the leading lawyers that fought for the victims of the #endsars protests in Lagos in 2020.

He was the publisher of Squib, a magazine devoted to exposing the rot and corruption in the judicial system. He also used the magazine to monitor Lagos State judges, their activities and performance on their jobs.

One of his closest colleagues, and a leader of the Ikeja bar, Mr Dare Akande confirmed Ogunlana’s death.
