The Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi is currently under fire for unveiling a statue of the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu.
The First Lady was in Ife for the inauguration of a hostel and 2.7-kilometer road donated to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, by the Ooni of Ife, which he named after Remi Tinubu. The first lady had also donated N1 billion to the University as she disclosed that she graduated from OAU 41 years ago.
While speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife lauded the President’s wife for serving as a role model to young ones since her days as First Lady of Lagos State. He disclosed that he has been a keen admirer of her, especially when she spearheaded the One Day Governor in Lagos, which provided opportunities to young Secondary school bøys and girls to become Governor in Lagos. The Ooni added that this was a milestone and a major inspiration for the younger ones to aspire and prosper.
Following this, he built a golden statue for the President’s wife, which he unveiled on Friday, October 11th, at Obafemi Awolowo University. He remarked that the statue symbolizes her remarkable leadership, commitment to education, and advocacy for women’s empowerment.
The news was, however, met with outrage from Nigerians who opined that the First Lady hasn’t done anything worthwhile for Nigeria.
