The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has categorically denied allegations made by Ms. Fagbule, who accused him of swindling her out of $180,000 (N290M) under the pretense of marriage through Facebook.
In a statement issued by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the Ooni clarified that he has never been in any form of contact, communication, or relationship with Ms. Fagbule. He emphasized that he does not personally operate any Facebook accounts, managing his palace affairs through a structured media directorate responsible for his official social media handles like Instagram and Facebook.
The traditional ruler expressed concern over the prevalence of romance scams online, urging caution among the public, especially women aspiring to be associated with royalty. He criticized the propagation of what he termed as baseless and spurious allegations aimed at tarnishing his reputation for personal gain. The Ooni highlighted that Ms. Fagbule’s claims lacked credibility and urged her to pursue proper channels like the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) or the Police for investigation rather than fueling a social media spectacle.
In conclusion, the Ooni reaffirmed his commitment to upholding justice and fairness, questioning the motives behind Ms. Fagbule’s decision to escalate the matter on social media instead of seeking legal recourse through reputable institutions and media channels.
