The Nigerian Senate announced on Wednesday the removal of Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume (Borno South) from his position as Chief Whip. The decision was made during a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, with members of the APC Senate Caucus endorsing Ndume’s removal during the plenary session. Ndume has been succeeded by Tahir Mungono (Borno North).
The move comes following Ndume’s recent criticisms of the government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a letter addressed to the Senate Caucus, the APC’s national leadership requested Ndume to resign from the party and align himself with any opposition party of his choosing. The letter, signed by the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru, signifies a significant shift in Ndume’s political alignment.
