The House of Representatives has passed a bill for the second reading aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Sponsored by Rep. Abiodun Derin Adesida and Rep. Olaide Lateef Muhammed, the bill proposes amendments to the FRSC Act of 2007 to establish a Special Armed Squad within the agency.
Key provisions include granting Deputy Corp Marshals enhanced retirement benefits and giving the FRSC exclusive authority over road traffic administration, safety management, and the regulation of public road usage.
Additionally, the bill seeks to empower the FRSC to clear obstructions on public roads and educate the public on safe road practices.
The initiative received unanimous support from members during a voice vote.
