There was a fire outbreak at Itamaga Plank market located in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Nosa Okunbor, noted that the agency received emergency calls and promptly deployed its Lion Squad from the Agbowa Base.
Upon their arrival at the market around 4:20 AM on Wednesday, responders found one of the shops fully engulfed in flames.
Following a detailed investigation, LASEMA determined that a power surge caused the fire.
“The swift response and coordinated actions of the LRT and LASG Fire & Rescue Service played a crucial role in containing and extinguishing the fire,” the statement indicated.
LASEMA reported that the fire destroyed the shop, leading to a partial loss of goods and property.
Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported during the incident.
At the time of this report, the fire had been completely extinguished, and the area secured.
The agency also mentioned that emergency responders have ensured the safety of the vicinity and provided guidance to occupants on the safe use of electrical appliances.
