A fight broke at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja during a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting on Wednesday.
The conflict involved Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, both claiming the position of National Secretary.
The trouble started when Ude-Okoye entered the meeting venue before Anyanwu and Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, arrived.
However, when Anyanwu reached the venue, Ude-Okoye was forced out, leading to a heated clash.
The meeting, currently underway is being presided over by the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum, was attended by several key party members, including National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Senator Ben Obi, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, Board Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.
The National Secretary position has been a source of dispute since Anyanwu vacated it to contest the Imo governorship election, which he lost.
In his absence, the PDP South East Caucus endorsed Ude-Okoye as a replacement.
However, Anyanwu sought to reclaim his seat, deepening the party’s internal crisis.
A Court of Appeal in Enugu ruled on December 20, 2024, that Ude-Okoye was the rightful National Secretary.
Despite this, Anyanwu has filed for a Stay of Execution and an appeal, with Dr. Musa (SAN) handling the legal battle.
