Former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Evang. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, known as Ada Anioma, was found dead at the River Niger bank in Onitsha, Anambra State. The 58-year-old was brutally murdered by a six-man gang of kidnappers. Her body was discovered around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, three days after she was abducted from her church in Asaba.

Mrakpor, the wife of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mr. Peter Mrakpor, had been severely tortured before her death. The kidnappers did not demand ransom or contact her family and burned her car to destroy evidence. The abduction also resulted in the killing of her two police orderlies.

Joan Mrakpor was a notable political figure in Delta State, having served as a legislator in both the House of Representatives and the Delta State House of Assembly. Her murder has deeply shocked and saddened the community.
