In a candid interview on the show “Nollywood on Radio,” renowned Nigerian actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao shared her harrowing experience dealing with the emotional fallout from false rumors circulating online.

Ajao revealed that the impact of these malicious stories became so overwhelming that she contemplated self-harm, stating, “I almost poisoned myself because there was news about me online that was far from true.” She described this challenging period as the most painful moment of her life, emphasizing the toll it took on her mental health. “I didn’t eat for seven straight days. People around me can testify – I didn’t go anywhere.”

At the time, Ajao was also busy preparing for her upcoming film, but her emotional turmoil made it increasingly difficult to focus on her work. “My sisters were calling, telling me, ‘You have to do this for yourself. You don’t have to poison yourself.’ My son was reaching out to everyone, saying I was struggling with this lie online,” she explained.
Reflecting on the distressing chapter of her life, Ajao expressed her desire to move past it, saying, “I don’t even want to remember those things, honestly.” Her brave admission sheds light on the often-hidden struggles faced by public figures in the face of online scrutiny.
