Players and officials of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club El-Kanemi Warriors were ambushed by armed robbers early Saturday morning along the Jos-Bauchi road.
The team was en route to Maiduguri after a 2-0 loss to Ikorodu City in Lagos during a matchday 14 fixture on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that the attackers left several team members injured and carted away valuables, including mobile phones and cash. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bauchi.
The incident has cast uncertainty over the Warriors’ scheduled home match against Bayelsa United in Maiduguri on Sunday, with expectations that the NPFL may postpone the fixture.
This latest attack highlights growing concerns about the safety of football teams traveling for league fixtures across the country.
