The Federal Government of Nigeria recently honored Alhaja Abibat Mogaji, the late mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by naming the ICT block at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) after her. This act of recognition underscores her contributions to women’s empowerment and development in Nigeria.
Alhaja Abibat Mogaji was a prominent figure in Nigerian society, widely known for her activism and role in commerce. She was the President-General of the Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men, a position through which she championed the rights and welfare of market traders, particularly women. Her efforts were instrumental in advocating for better conditions for women in business and fostering economic empowerment for women in grassroots communities.
Naming the ICT block after her at the Maryam Babangida Centre, a facility dedicated to the advancement of women, is a fitting tribute. The ICT block will serve as a hub for digital education and skills training, empowering women with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s tech-driven economy. This honor reflects the lasting impact of Mogaji’s advocacy for the economic and social development of women across Nigeria.

The recognition is also a nod to her legacy of inspiring women to take active roles in leadership and economic activities, aligning with the broader goals of the Centre established in memory of Maryam Babangida, another trailblazer in women’s development.
