In a devastating incident, at least 40 individuals are reported to be trapped beneath the debris of a collapsed building in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. The structure, which was under construction, collapsed in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting immediate rescue operations by emergency response teams and local residents.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic atmosphere as they rushed to aid those trapped. “No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” one witness told Vanguard, highlighting the urgent need for additional resources to support recovery efforts.

The tragedy comes just weeks after a similar incident in Abuja’s Kubwa area, where part of a two-story residential building near Cupid Hotel collapsed. In that case, four individuals were rescued, but many others were feared trapped beneath the wreckage.

As rescue operations continue, officials and residents are calling for swift action from government agencies to assist in locating and freeing those still trapped in the rubble. The community remains on edge as they await news of their loved ones and the efforts to prevent further tragedies in the future.
