Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa has again declined to address the ongoing controversy regarding her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, she stated she wouldn’t be distracted by the discussions surrounding her NYSC participation, which was questioned during her Senate confirmation.
Despite being confirmed in 2023, Musawa faced legal challenges over her appointment, with plaintiffs alleging she did not complete the mandatory NYSC service.
However, the case was dismissed in April 2024, as the court ruled the plaintiffs lacked standing.
Reflecting on the situation after a year in office, Musawa remarked, “There have been so many different accounts,” and emphasized her belief that her current position indicates she did nothing wrong. She indicated that she plans to share her side of the story in the future, asserting, “I have probably done more NYSC than you,” suggesting she had completed multiple terms of service.
