Former Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina, who represented the Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, has reportedly passed away just two months after celebrating his 70th birthday.

Although the family has not officially confirmed the news, reliable sources indicate that he has died.

Zwingina was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, serving as the Director-General of the MKO Abiola campaign organization during the pivotal June 12, 1993, presidential election.

A founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he held the position of Senate Majority Leader for two terms and was active on several key committees, including Works and Housing. Later in his career, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as the chairman of the board of trustees for the Save Democracy Group Africa.

Known for his strong advocacy for democracy, Zwingina made significant contributions to Nigerian politics throughout his career.
