The Federal High Court in Lagos is set to hear a case on October 22 concerning an application from the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation and Ibeju-Lekki Peoples Forum. They are seeking clarification on claims by Alhaji Aliko Dangote that he paid $100 million to the Lagos State Government for land related to the Dangote Refinery. The application demands that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other state officials confirm the truth of Dangote’s statement. If verified, the applicants want a detailed account of the transaction and an explanation for the lack of public disclosure regarding this significant payment. Lead counsel for the applicants, Barrister Yakubu Eleto, highlighted the community’s grievances, noting that residents have not received compensation despite the negative impact of the refinery’s establishment. The lawsuit, filed under Nigeria’s Freedom of Information Act, aims to promote transparency in public fund management. As of now, the case has not yet been assigned to a judge, pending the court’s usual schedule for case assignments.
