Edo State Governorship Candidate of the Accord Party, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, has announced his withdrawal from the race just a day before the gubernatorial election.
He cited a desire to address pressing national issues, including food insecurity and economic hardship, as the reason for his decision.
Iyere faced challenges during his campaign, notably from his running mate, Bright Enabulele, who misrepresented himself as the party’s candidate. In his statement, Iyere emphasized that he would now focus on supporting the federal government in tackling unemployment and promoting economic development.
He urged voters in Edo State to back a candidate from the Edo Central Senatorial District, advocating for a fair power rotation after years of waiting. Eligible voters in Edo State are set to vote on Saturday, September 21, to elect a new governor to succeed incumbent Godwin Obaseki, who will complete his tenure on November 12, 2024.
Key contenders include Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
