Noel Okechukwu, a final-year student at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, was shot and killed by local vigilante operatives on August 17, 2024, at Senator Stella Oduah’s Estate in Akili-Ozizor, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to his father, Rex Okechukwu, Noel was on his way to buy fresh fish when an altercation with security guards led to him being shot. Eyewitnesses reported that after being shot, Noel was given water, which he drank before dying.
The security operatives alleged that Noel was involved in looting and vandalizing property within the estate, but this claim is under investigation.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
