Peju Ogunmola, a respected veteran actress, has highlighted poor parenting as a significant factor contributing to immorality and nudity within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, particularly Nollywood.

Speaking at an event in Osogbo organized by Ile-Agbasaga, she expressed concern over the lack of parental guidance affecting younger talents. Ogunmola emphasized that values such as integrity and adherence to family principles have guided her conduct during her extensive 43-year career in acting.

Furthermore, she criticized the government for neglecting the entertainment sector despite its potential to provide substantial employment opportunities for youth. Ogunmola urged the Osun State Government to invest more in arts and culture, citing past collaborations between the industry and government that successfully promoted cultural heritage and international recognition.

“Three important values shape one’s morals in life; parenting, integrity and consciousness to adhere to family values.

“In my over 43 years in the acting industry, I have always guided jealously my parent’s name, my husband’s name, and my personal integrity as a person, hence, the decision not to be wayward in my life.

“I will only counsel younger ones, especially women not to lose focus of being the ambassadors of their respective family in their conduct as they attempt to enter the industry”, she said.

“During the days of legends like Oyin Adejobi, Duro Ladipo, and other prominent actors in Osogbo, we had robust collaborations with the government. We enjoyed substantial support, with the government sponsoring our events both within the country and internationally.”

“What went missing is that the government is not giving adequate recognition to the entertainment industry. Although we contribute to the country’s development and are significant employers of labour, we are not receiving the support we deserve.”
