The situation in Ibadan has escalated due to nationwide protests that halted commercial activities. Civil societies are urging the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to join the protest within 48 hours, demanding several reforms including reversing anti-poor policies, repositioning public refineries, and addressing electricity tariff hikes. Despite initial dissociation, some workers reported for duty under heavy security at the Oyo state government secretariat. Markets and banks were largely closed, and youth protesters marched peacefully across major streets, demanding an end to hunger and poor governance. The protest is scheduled to continue for 8 days unless key economic issues are addressed.
