The Lagos State government has deployed a significant number of officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) to patrol the streets on the eve of the planned nationwide protest against hunger and hardship. This protest, titled “End Bad Governance in Nigeria,” is organized by aggrieved Nigerians to voice their dissatisfaction with the federal government’s handling of the economy.
The government’s efforts are aimed at preventing the protest from escalating into chaos and anarchy, as predicted by security agencies. On Wednesday, RRS officers and Task Force members were seen conducting patrols, starting from Alausa in Ikeja and moving through key areas including the old Tollgate, Ojota, Ogudu, and Iyana Oworo, reaching up to the Third Mainland Bridge axis.

Some heavily armed officers were also seen matching through Lekki streets to the Lekki Tollgate area.

The RRS was led by its Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye while the Task Force was captained by its Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele.
According to a statement on its X account on Wednesday morning, the RRS described the exercise as a “joint visibility patrol and fitness walk” in readiness for emergencies in the state.
