Vice President Kashim Shettima has sharply criticized Nigerians living abroad, accusing them of instigating nationwide protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking at a wedding in Maiduguri, Shettima labeled the diaspora critics as “bandits and idiots,” alleging that they are using their platforms to create unrest from afar.

He warned that following their lead could lead Nigeria to face dire consequences similar to those experienced by Syria and Libya, framing their actions as a threat to national stability.

This response comes amid growing domestic discontent driven by severe economic challenges, including high inflation and food prices. Despite praise for Tinubu’s economic reforms from institutions like the IMF, the measures have not yet alleviated the widespread economic strain. President Tinubu is actively seeking to quell unrest by engaging with community leaders to discourage participation in the planned protests scheduled for early August.
