On Saturday, a section of a nine-storey building under construction in Asaba collapsed, leading to the death of one worker and injuries to several others. Eyewitnesses reported that the worker, operating a cement mixer, was crushed when the ninth-floor walls gave way.

The incident has sparked concerns about the building’s structural integrity and whether proper construction approvals were obtained. In response, the Delta State Government has sealed the construction site and launched an investigation. Michael Anoka, Commissioner of Urban Renewal, assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and the results will be made available to the public.
“There will be a further investigation into the building, and the findings will be made public,” Anoka stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring building safety and compliance with regulations.
