The closed-door meeting involving President Bola Tinubu and various stakeholders, including traditional rulers and government officials, is currently underway at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This gathering marks the second such meeting convened by the Nigerian leader amidst calls for planned protests on August 1st.

Notable attendees include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senator Kashim Shettima, several cabinet members, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and other high-ranking officials from different sectors. From the traditional ruler’s side, prominent figures like the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborokuzi I, are present.

The meeting is speculated to be focused on addressing concerns related to planned protests against the current administration, particularly concerning economic challenges facing the nation. Earlier in the day, President Tinubu also met with members of the Progressive Governors Forum, following a previous meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum held the night before.

This ongoing engagement underscores efforts by the government to engage with stakeholders and potentially mitigate tensions amidst socio-economic challenges in the country.
